KIDS JIU-JITSU

What is jiu-jitsu?

Kids' class training scene

A ground-fighting martial art born in Japan and evolved in Brazil. Its formal name is Brazilian jiu-jitsu, but practitioners usually just call it jiu-jitsu. Brazilian jiu-jitsu laid the foundation for mixed martial arts such as RIZIN and PRIDE.

That said, ordinary Brazilian jiu-jitsu classes have no striking. Modern jiu-jitsu became a sport by removing strikes. Because there is no striking, people can train with few injuries, and over the last decade the number of competitors of all ages has grown worldwide.

And now it is becoming an option for children's activities, alongside traditional martial arts like karate, judo, and kendo.

How old do you have to be?

At TATORU KIDZ, ages 4 to 15 count as kids. From age 16, you train with the adults. Some children are physically large, so please feel free to ask about age.

A word to everyone

Hello! I'm Takagame, in charge of the jiu-jitsu classes. What I keep in mind in class is to face each child seriously, one by one.

The children learning jiu-jitsu at TATORU KIDZ are so serious that adults are amazed. They grow day by day. If they train mind and body through jiu-jitsu during this time, every possibility for your child's future opens up.

Please don't miss the most important years of your child's life. Invest in your child's life. Start with a trial class!

A word to everyone

Hello! I'm Natsuki Takamoto, in charge of Kids and Juniors. Drawing on my experience as a former nursery school teacher, I mainly look after the little ones.

Martial arts may sound rough, but jiu-jitsu is mainly ground work, so you can feel at ease. I want many children to discover how fun jiu-jitsu is.

An activity won't last unless the child enjoys it. I try to create an environment where children say, "I can't wait to go to jiu-jitsu!" We offer free trials, so please come and try a class. We look forward to seeing you!

A word to everyone

Hello! I'm Hiroko Hayashida. As an assistant instructor for the jiu-jitsu classes, I enjoy jiu-jitsu together with the children.

What I keep in mind is staying close to a child's desire to take on challenges and supporting them as they figure things out and become able to do them. The children learning jiu-jitsu proudly tell us not only about getting better at jiu-jitsu, but also about how they have grown in daily life since starting.

Please try jiu-jitsu at TATORU, which is sure to be good for your child!

FAQ

How many times a week can we train?

You can train 5 times a week. The Saturday jiu-jitsu class is open to parent and child together.

Are there tournaments?

More children enter tournaments every year. TATORU KIDZ's tournament results are by far the best in Kyushu. Kids who weren't interested at first start to get interested after seeing their seniors do well. Parents and children plan strategy together for tournaments and travel to them together.

Of course, competing is not required. Children get a good workout even without competing, so please rest assured.

Are there events for parents and children?

Hiking, bowling tournaments, jiu-jitsu tournaments, Halloween costume events, and more. We hold more events than you would ever find at a typical activity.

TATORU KIDZ and adult TATORU have more than 30 parent-child pairs as members. They make precious memories while moving their bodies together.

Some start with the child and then the parent gets interested; others, a parent falls for jiu-jitsu and has all the children learn it. There are many ways to begin.

COMPARE

If you are
comparing with other activities

First, TATORU KIDZ is a physical activity. As noted on the home page, if you want your child to do well in studies, they should do physical exercise alongside cram school.

Physical activities include gymnastics, swimming, soccer, ballet, and so on. So what is the decisive difference between those and TATORU KIDZ?

TATORU KIDZ teaches a martial art. What only martial arts offer is learning etiquette. Children learn to greet people.

Among martial arts there are karate, judo, kendo, and more. Why TATORU KIDZ among them?

First, jiu-jitsu has few injuries. Martial arts with striking are practiced assuming injuries. And in judo, with its throws, a few children every year are thrown and seriously hurt. Brazilian jiu-jitsu, with no striking, is reassuring in that respect.

At the same time, it is first-rate self-defense. At TATORU KIDZ, children learn self-defense they can use for life.

The monthly fee is 8,000 yen, but there are about 22 classes a month, so it comes to about 363 yen per class. Over a year that is 96,000 yen. A gi costs about 10,000 yen a year, so for about 110,000 yen a year you can upgrade your child's character.

Over 5 years, that is 550,000 yen. For a total investment of 550,000 yen, your child gains an overwhelming difference in both physical and mental ability compared with children who don't do it.
